About the Alternative Government of National Unity (AGONU)
AGONU was formed to restore sovereign legitimacy, protect citizens, and stabilize the state until a permanent, constitutionally mandated government is elected through credible and inclusive elections.
Restoring Sovereign Legitimacy
Our Mandate:
The Alternative Government of National Unity (AGONU) is the sole legitimate technocratic authority of the Republic of South Sudan. It was established as an emergency response to the Material Breach of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) by the illegitimate administration in Juba.
When the primary legal conflict-resolution mechanisms of our nation were subverted—through the illegal detention of peace partners, the suppression of political space, and the privatization of national oil revenues—the existing R-TGNU forfeited its sovereign mandate to lead.
The AGONU exists to fill this governance vacuum, acting as a Caretaker Administration until a permanent, constitutionally mandated government can be seated through credible and inclusive elections.
Restoring A Technocratic Approach to Governance Legitimacy
Our Mandate:
Unlike the partisan and patronage-driven systems of the past, the AGONU operates on a technocratic and non-partisan basis. Our leadership is comprised of specialists—experts in economics, law, human rights, and public administration—who prioritize competent service delivery over political affiliation.
Our core objectives are grounded in Rational Legitimacy:
Restoration of Rule of Law
The AGONU is committed to ending the era of arbitrary governance and restoring a legal system where no individual is above the law. We view the rule of law not as a political tool, but as the foundational requirement.
Economic Transparency
Redirecting national resource wealth (Oil & Mining) into an International Escrow Account to ensure it funds civil servant salaries and public services rather than private militias.
Citizen Protection
Establishing digital pathways for citizens to report human rights violations, corruption, and state-sponsored violence directly to an international oversight body.
Democratic Transition
Organizing the first credible national census and drafting a permanent constitution to pave the way for a truly democratic mandate in 2027 and beyond.
Restoring Sovereign Legitimacy
Our Mandate:
The AGONU is not a permanent government. We are the bridge to a stable future. By consolidating the bloated 35-ministry system into 10 streamlined, expert-led portfolios, we are reducing state waste and focusing every available dollar on the restoration of our people’s dignity.
International Recognition
We invite the international community—including the United Nations, African Union, and the Troika—to recognize the AGONU as the only partner capable of upholding international obligations and delivering the peace that the R-ARCSS originally promised.
